1st Annual Mike Edwards Birthday Kite Fest!

Awesome store where we picked out our kites.

For my dad's birthday this year, I felt it was important that we get together and do something fun.  Now that Violet is with us, it's important to me that we honor my dad each year in a special way.  I want her to know her grandpa through the stories and memories we share.  Those of you that knew my father, know he was a big kid trapped in an adult's body (a very long, lanky body ;).  Kites, yo-yos, rockets, camping, and being outdoors were just a few of his many interests.

This year we decided to fly kites, and it was an absolutely perfect day.  We started out with brunch at Enoteca, flew kites at Auditorium Shores, and had Wick Fowler's chili (dad's favorite chili mix) at Emily and Danny's house on their newly built deck.  We sat around the fire and shared memories of dad, Grandma, and Big Daddy.  It was the perfect tribute, and Violet was a part of it all.

Vi Smiles!

See, she really does smile!  We just have a difficult time catching it on film.  As soon as the camera comes out, she gets serious.  We've found it typically takes 3 people to catch her giggling and smiling.

Christmas Part Deux: San Antonio

We spent New Year's in San Antonio with the Mills for our second Christmas.  It was a gaggle o' gals as we exchanged gifts with Teresa and her three little girls, Bailey, Pearl, and Ruby (just a few weeks younger than Violet).  Mike was present even though he isn't in the photos (sorry, Mike---don't know what happened!).

Every time I'm with them I'm reminded of how fortunate I am to have married into such a wonderful family!  Theo and I shared champagne with Mike and Nancy for the East Coast New Year's (11:00) before falling asleep.  Ahhh, parenthood... I love it!
